Common Questions About Working at Mercury

Do I need prior low voltage or DAS experience to apply?
For the Low Voltage Technician role, one year of applicable experience is preferred but not required for motivated candidates. What matters most is a positive attitude, mechanical aptitude, and willingness to learn. We provide paid on-the-job training and sponsor certifications including BICSI and OSHA.
Do I need a security clearance to work here?
Not for most roles. However, some projects require access to DoD facilities, and candidates who hold or can obtain a clearance are highly valued. We actively support the clearance process for eligible employees.
How does the DoD SkillBridge program work at Mercury?
If you’re an active-duty service member within 180 days of separation, you may be eligible for DoD SkillBridge — which lets you work with Mercury full-time while still drawing military pay. Contact us directly at (540) 228-3111 to discuss your timeline and available roles.
What does a typical work week look like for a field tech?
Most field technicians report to our Winchester office or a job site each morning, receive their assignment, and work independently or in a two-person crew. Work is primarily across Virginia, but some projects take you to Maryland, West Virginia, and DoD installations. Travel is paid.
Why do you ask for a resume link instead of a file upload?
We don’t store uploaded files on the website for security reasons. A link to your resume on Google Drive, Dropbox, LinkedIn, or any file-sharing service works perfectly — just make sure it’s set to “Anyone with the link can view.”
Are there remote work options?
Field roles (Low Voltage Tech, DAS Technician) are on-site by nature. The IT Support Technician role is hybrid — primarily from our Winchester office with occasional on-site client visits. The Sales Representative role is territory-based and primarily road work.
What's the Palo Alto Networks training pathway at Mercury?
For NOC roles, Mercury sponsors Palo Alto Networks certification exam fees and provides access to vendor training resources through our partnership relationship with Palo Alto Networks. New hires without certifications at start of employment have 90–180 days to obtain Foundational level (Cybersecurity Apprentice or Cybersecurity Practitioner); progression to Professional and Specialist levels follows individual development plans. Mercury covers exam costs and training time.
Do you partner with Laurel Ridge Community College?
Yes. Mercury maintains a formal recruiting partnership with Laurel Ridge Community College (Middletown, VA) for entry-level NOC Analyst positions. LRCC AAS Cybersecurity graduates are a primary pipeline for our Tier 1 cybersecurity roles. Mercury sponsors CompTIA Security+ and Palo Alto Networks Foundational exam fees for committed candidates, hosts paid summer internships for rising AAS seniors, and contributes to capstone project sponsorship.
