Mercury Communications provides alarm monitoring in Virginia for homes, estates, farms, and businesses, from Winchester and the Shenandoah Valley to Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads. Every Mercury Watch system is designed, installed, and serviced by our own DCJS-registered technicians and monitored 24/7 by a UL-listed central station over cellular signaling, so one licensed Virginia company is accountable for the equipment, the monitoring, and the service.

Security Built for the Property You Actually Have

A 40-acre farm with three outbuildings and a medical practice with six exterior doors need different systems. Both start with a site survey, not a catalog.

Homes, Estates & Rural Properties

Single-family homes, private estates, farms, and properties beyond the reach of cable and fiber.

  • Intrusion detection for every entry point
  • Glass break and motion coverage
  • Environmental sensors — smoke, CO, water, low temp, freeze
  • Outbuildings, barns, and detached garages
  • Monitored cameras with video verification
  • Smart locks, thermostats, and lighting from one app
  • Cellular monitoring that works where broadband does not

Business & Institutional

Offices, clinics, retail, warehouses, and multi-site operations that need accountability as much as detection.

  • Monitored intrusion for offices, clinics, retail, and warehouses
  • Open/close reporting and user-code accountability
  • Integration with the access control and IP camera systems Mercury already installs
  • Multi-site management from one dashboard
  • Video verification to reduce false-dispatch exposure
  • Commercial-grade panels with dual-path signaling

A Monitored System Is Only as Good as the Company Behind It

The equipment is rarely the problem. The response, the signaling path, and the accountability behind the agreement are where systems fail.

What goes wrong

  • DIY kits self-monitor. Nobody dispatches when you are asleep, traveling, or your phone is on silent.
  • Broadband-only monitoring fails in exactly the conditions that matter — cut service, power loss, storm outage.
  • National brands sell the contract, then subcontract the truck. The installer is not the company on the agreement.
  • Virginia requires a DCJS Electronic Security Business License for alarm work. Unlicensed installs create liability, void warranties, and fail inspection.
  • Long auto-renewing agreements with no local accountability are the norm in this industry, not the exception.

What Mercury delivers

  • Cellular or dual-path signaling — the system reports even when internet and power are down.
  • The people who design it, install it, and service it are Mercury employees, DCJS-registered individually.
  • 24/7 monitoring through a UL-Listed central station with trained operators.
  • Every system documented — device list, zone map, user codes, as-built.
  • One contractor for the network, the cabling, the cameras, and the alarm.

What Goes Into a Mercury Watch System

Every system is specified at the site survey. These are the building blocks it gets specified from.

Equipment We Install
Powered by Alarm.com — smart security platform used by Mercury Communications, Winchester Virginia Ubiquiti UniFi — network and video equipment installed by Mercury Communications

Mercury builds on equipment from established manufacturers. Smart property control, app access, and video features are delivered on the Alarm.com platform. Every system is designed, installed, monitored, and serviced by Mercury Communications.

Already Have an Alarm System? We Can Often Take It Over.

Many existing hardwired systems can be brought onto Mercury Watch by replacing the panel and reusing the existing sensor wiring — a takeover rather than a full swap. A site survey determines which path applies.

  • Assessment of existing panel, keypads, and zone wiring
  • Compatibility check against current panel platforms
  • Takeover where the wiring supports it
  • Full replacement where it does not
  • Migration off discontinued landline (POTS) communication to cellular
  • Documented zone map and device list either way

A takeover is usually the lower-cost path, but not every panel supports it — the survey is what settles it.

Already have UniFi cameras? If your property already runs UniFi Protect, we connect those cameras to the central station rather than selling you a second set. Same monthly rate as the tier above — ask about the UniFi edition.

Available add-ons

Additional cameras · doorbell camera on the entry tier · extended event packages · supervised open/close (commercial) · operator audio talk-down · overnight residential video monitoring · exterior secured-site video monitoring · access control by the door · cellular backhaul for sites without reliable internet · wellness and aging-in-place monitoring · UL commercial supervision. Quoted with your system.

Monthly rates are published, not quoted on request — what you see is what every Mercury Watch customer pays. Equipment is purchased separately and installation is quoted from the site survey. Prices exclude mobilization and applicable Virginia sales tax.

Combine Watch With What Mercury Already Does for You

If Mercury already connects the property, securing it costs less to set up.

Starlink Secure

For customers who have Mercury install Starlink: alarm installation labor is waived in exchange for a 36-month Mercury Watch agreement signed within 30 days of the Starlink install. Equipment is billed at list.

Terms, equipment, and eligibility confirmed at site survey. Monitoring agreement required.

Mercury Complete

Already a Mercury managed-services customer? Adding Watch moves you up one membership level at your next renewal — Silver to Gold, Gold to Platinum — and platform and central-station activation is waived at setup.

Terms, equipment, and eligibility confirmed at site survey. Monitoring agreement required.

Takeover & Upgrade

Existing systems come onto Mercury Watch at the standard monthly rate for their tier — only the installation differs by path. The takeover inspection fee is credited back in full when you sign.

Terms, equipment, and eligibility confirmed at site survey. Monitoring agreement required.

Veteran Installation Credit

$250 toward your installation, from a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. Mercury is veteran-founded and veteran-led, and our monitoring agreement waives the early termination charge outright on PCS or deployment orders.

Verification required. Not combinable with other installation offers — you receive whichever is greater.

Alarm Monitoring in Virginia — Answered

Yes. Virginia requires a DCJS Electronic Security Business License to sell, install, service, or monitor alarm systems, and it separately requires each individual technician to be registered with DCJS. Mercury holds the business license (#11-30083) and every technician who works on a security system is individually registered. Mercury also holds a Virginia Class A Contractor License (#2705165655) for the electrical and low voltage work the installation depends on. An installer without both is working outside the law, and an unlicensed install can void insurance coverage and fail inspection.
Mercury designs, installs, and services every system with its own employees. Alarm signals are received and acted on by a UL-Listed central station staffed 24/7 by trained operators — that is the industry-standard model, and it is what allows round-the-clock response. What is different here is that when something needs a truck, the company you call is the company that installed it.
The system keeps reporting. Mercury Watch panels signal over cellular, or over a dual path that uses cellular and internet together and fails over automatically. Panels also carry battery backup, so a power outage does not take the system offline. This matters most in exactly the situations where security matters most — a storm, a cut line, or an intentional attempt to disable service before a break-in. Broadband-only monitoring fails in all three.
Often, yes. Many hardwired systems can be brought onto Mercury Watch by replacing the panel and reusing existing sensor wiring, which is generally the lower-cost path. Systems still communicating over a landline (POTS) can be migrated to cellular. Whether a takeover works depends on the panel, the keypads, and the condition of the zone wiring — the site survey is what determines it. Where a takeover is not possible, Mercury will say so and quote a replacement instead.
Many Virginia localities require an alarm user permit and have false-alarm ordinances, and the requirements differ between the City of Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia Beach, and surrounding jurisdictions. Registration is part of our installation process — we tell you what your locality requires and walk you through it before your system goes live.
Video verification means that when an alarm trips, the system captures a short clip from the camera covering that area and delivers it to the central station operator alongside the alarm signal. The operator can then confirm whether there is an actual intrusion rather than reporting an unverified alarm. Many jurisdictions give verified alarms a higher dispatch priority, and verification substantially reduces false-dispatch calls — which in some localities carry fines after a set number of occurrences.
Mercury Watch runs on a 36-month agreement. The term begins on your activation date — the day your system is first placed in active monitoring, not the day you sign. After the initial term, the agreement renews in 12-month terms at the then-current rate unless either side gives 30 days’ written notice, and we send you a reminder of your renewal date and how to cancel at least 30 days before your initial term ends. You can give notice by mail, email, or phone, and we confirm it in writing. If you need to end the agreement early there is a termination charge, and we waive it entirely if you receive military PCS or deployment orders, if you relocate within our service area and move the service with you, or if a new owner of the property assumes the agreement.
Equipment sold to you becomes your property once it is paid in full. Until then Mercury holds a security interest in it, which releases automatically when the balance clears. Mercury holds your monitoring account and your service relationship — you call Mercury for service, for billing, and for changes to your system, not a national call center and not a company you have never spoken to.
Yes — rural properties are a core part of this service. Because Mercury Watch signals over cellular, a monitored system does not require broadband at the property. For properties that also need internet, Mercury installs Starlink and can design the security system and the connectivity together. Farms, estates, and properties with detached outbuildings are handled routinely across the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia.
